SABI-CONNECT is an innovative and sustainable community Wi-Fi solution developed by SABI. It was created in response to one of the biggest barriers to development in Sierra Leone: lack of affordable and reliable internet access in underserved and remote areas. Without connectivity, students, small businesses, and entire communities are excluded from opportunities to learn, trade, and communicate in the digital age.
SABI-CONNECT offers a practical, scalable answer. It combines low-cost, high-range Wi-Fi hardware with a secure voucher system, enabling anyone in the coverage area to access the internet quickly and affordably. To purchase a voucher, users simply visit a designated local agent in the village, who is connected to our digital sales platform, SABI-PAY. This agent issues vouchers and collects payments in cash or mobile money on behalf of the operator, ensuring a human presence and trust in the process, while keeping the system easy to use and cash-friendly for customers.
To ensure sustainability and local ownership, we built SABI-CONNECT around a franchise model: community-based investors can partner with us to deploy and manage hotspots in their own areas. This approach creates jobs, generates revenue locally, and incentivizes proper maintenance and growth. Meanwhile, SABI provides central technical support, software updates, and continuous innovation.
After a successful pilot in Makoni, Northern Sierra Leone — which proved both profitable and impactful — we are now ready to scale the model across the country and beyond. With the right partners, we aim to connect thousands more people to the opportunities that the internet provides.
